Is Your Thyroid The Problem? Maybe.

Uncategorized May 19, 2013

The thyroid, perhaps the most sought after diagnosis in medicine because, for many women struggling with weight, fatigue and hormonal symptoms, the thyroid stands as the holy grail of hope.

Many mistakenly believe that if they could be identified as having a thyroid problem, they would be able to take medicine and once balanced, would experience weight loss, energy, sex drive, and improved sleep.

However, this all in one thyroid is a myth. There are no overnight ways to regulate thyroid and modern medicine offers little if any hope because conventional thyroid medication is mostly a synthetic blend. The thyroid is a big problem but it is never alone and when weak, cannot be fixed by some thyroid only therapy, the things that we commonly think of as thyroid symptoms are really indications of a hormonal system that has reached its breaking point.

These symptoms are:

  • Fatigue
  • Weight Gain
  • Sleep Disturbance
  • Mood Changes
  • Thinning skin and hair
  • Muscle pain and weakness
  • Low libido

The thyroid is a gland situated in the neck, it regulates many processes via is the production of hormone namely:

  • T4: inactive hormone
  • T3: active hormone

T4 makes up most of what is released, but it as T4 cannot do anything, so it travels to the tissues and must be converted to T3 which can then act on cells to moderate metabolism, body temperature, and energy production. However, if your body, due to inflammation cannot convert T3, having lots and lots of T4 will make no difference, and synthroid and its partner drugs are all T4. Consequently, being given a dose of thyroid may not change anything! Taking natural thyroid may work for a while, as it is a combination of T3 and T4, but even that can eventually fail if other endocrine systems directly linked and impacted by the function of the thyroid and by inflammation in the body are not dealt with.

Endocrine systems linked to and directly affected by thyroid are:

  • Hypothalamus
  • Ovaries
  • Testes
  • Adrenals
  • Pituitary

See, the thyroid is not alone, in fact, more often than not; I find if the hypothalamus is regulated ahead of the thyroid, other endocrine systems respond with much greater ease. What happens is, over time, environmental stress, chemicals, GMO foods, sugar, aspartame, hormonal replacement therapies, stress, poor lifestyle habits, and viruses/bacteria/parasites all work to clog the function of hormonal receptors. As a result, the sludge-like substance begins to clog the receptors themselves and the extracellular matrix surrounding them. Consequently, even when nutrients, hormones and herbs are put into the body they have a minimal effect because they cannot reach their target area due to the accumulated waste. Therefore, to effect change in these structures, waste must first be removed, proper signaling restored and normal drainage initiated.

Taking glandular extracts like many prescribe cannot do this, nor can large doses of vitamins and minerals because if the matrix cannot respond, nutrients cannot reach their intended target structure. Therefore, much of what many promote as thyroid regulating therapy ends up doing nothing for the thyroid and as a result, those seeking help for their symptoms end up feeling very frustrated.

It is possible to fix this, but like any good process, it must proceed segmentally, first removing the waste, and restoring normal signaling, second healing the damaged tissues while restoring total body immune and organ function and third replacing nutrients needed for normal response. When done this way, the body re-learns how to function and as a result holds the information and is able to sustain changes without periodic backsliding.
