Should you detox?
Detox is a big word in the healing community. Especially now as we approach the holidays.
Health food stores are going to start marketing their detox systems for the new year. It makes perfect sense, we spend two months overindulging and then, feeling bloated and awful, we reach January with a newfound desire to feel good again.
But will it work?
Well, let's talk a little bit about all of these detoxes and I suppose not just the ones that the health food stores, but also all of those being offered by natural doctors, chiropractor offices, nutritionists, and more.
I get it, the allure of losing 10 pounds fast is almost too much to pass up.
What is detox anyway? It can mean a lot of things, detox is supposed to be by definition, the removal of waste from the body. Some people will tell you that they can even get into your heavy metals and parasites. So let's take those one by one.
Heavy metal detox. Heavy metals are complex in our system, in fact, they tend to...
Are you spending your retirement right now?
I don't actually even mean financially. That may be true too, but I'm not talking about that.
Are you spending the years of your nineties and eighties right at this moment, living your forties and fifties and sixties? Let me explain.
Do you find yourself running on reserves most of the time? Feeling that the energy you're drawing from is definitely not today's because you didn't feel that energy today.
If you have chronic health problems, if you have borderline diabetes or diabetes type two, if you have hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease, signs of Adrenal burnout, chronic pain, chronic digestive issues, and even long-standing weight issues.
What I can tell you right now is, you are using your reserves. Now, if we add to this the impact of modern life, which for most has come to the point where we have no choice but to use reserves because we take on our day job, family obligations, side projects, volunteer opportunities, and on...
I can't tell you the number of times that I've spoken to a woman who has just an absolutely beautiful dream, you know, opening a custom boutique filled with beautiful things, teaching English as a second language, writing a book, traveling the world, doing photography, taking their kids on a trip of a lifetime, quitting their day job, opening their dream business.
Over and over and over, I hear these amazing dreams of women, dreams that have been on their heart for so long, dreams of expansion, dreams of living out their full best possible reality. They're heartfelt desires, deepening their relationship with everything they've ever loved.
It’s no wonder I see these dreams start to manifest in the women that I work with, I see them start to grow in relationship with what they most love and most want, I watch their lives expand.
But, in my conversations, I also see a lot of women hold those dreams and then step back into the shadows, succumbing to...
Do you use exhaustion as your proof of productivity or worthiness?
Have you been hanging onto it for that reason?
One of my clients told me one day that because she doesn't have kids, she feels like if she found a job she loved instead of the hectic one that makes her have to travel all the time, then she wouldn't have a reason to justify to all of her friends with kids why she's tired.
Are you doing that? Are you living your life allowing for overburdening and exhaustion because it is the only way that you're proving to the world that you're of worth?
Is it working?
Do you think the world views you as being so much more of a contributor because you allow yourself to stay stuck in that space every single day? What does it robbing you of?
Are you really worth more? I mean in every sense of the word, are you physically more bountifully vital than you were before, or are you economically more stable than you could ever imagine?
Are you living your dream? Do you wake up every day...
I used to be really tired, in fact, that's the whole reason why I talk so much about what real energy is and where illness comes from because in my own journey I discovered that it wasn't what I had been taught in school.
It wasn't what my functional medicine training had taught me. It wasn't just repair the adrenals. It wasn't just repair the thyroid. It wasn't that it just heal the gut. It wasn't a methylation disorder. It wasn't just toxicity. It wasn't just candida. I know because I tried to solve all of those.
What I discovered, the real cause is rooted five layers deeper than all of that. Those other things were at the surface, they were a conversation at the top, not a conversation deep in, and so I, like most people I had studied with had been looking at the wrong thing.
Sadly, the consequences were really huge.
Maybe this will resonate with where you are, but back then, there were two of me...
The public me and the private me.
The public me smiled, was engaging,...
Food is our most valuable medicine. What we eat shapes how we feel, how we think, and how we live. When we lose connection with food, our cells suffer, causing organ and hormonal stress. Part of any great healing plan involves cultivating an intimate relationship with what we eat. Without this, even the most powerful plans fall short. Although many find changes to diet difficult, with proper guidance, time, and coaching, anyone can adopt new patterns and create new behaviors.
Food is one of my passions, I read about it in my spare time, I cook every meal my family eats to ensure quality and taste and I try to continually update my knowledge base and resource lists to help others get access to what will nourish them most.
I also believe that food is what cures us, you can take the best, most expensive supplements the world has to offer but without good food, nothing fantastic will ever happen. Why? Because eating is the only common thing we do besides...
